Hi there, hola.

Helen Romeu Coombes is a bilingual Spanish-British actor and theatre maker born and raised in Madrid, Spain, currently based between Madrid and New York. Shaped by both British and American acting traditions, she is a graduate of the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York and a first class alumna of the University of Exeter in the UK. She has also been a proud member of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain since she was 16. She has worked professionally on stage and on screen in Spain, the UK, and the US.

I decided I wanted to be an actor at the age of 10 when I played the Sheriff of Nottingham in a school production of Robin Hood, and realised that dressing up as a medieval tax collector and shouting “Saxon dogs!” while brandishing a plastic sword could be quite a fun job.

As a performer and collaborator, I am drawn to working on both new devised works and the adaptation of classical texts. I am especially passionate about making classical works more accessible to modern audiences.

My training with the National Youth Theatre when I was 16 left a deep impression on me, and their focus on ensemble as well as playful, joyous theatremaking is something I try to bring to every rehearsal room I am in.

When not in the rehearsal room or on a stage, you can typically find me on a running track, sipping tea with my head in a book or hanging with friends in any green space I can find.
